Scots Sweep No. 20 Gulls For First Time Since 2007

BEVERLY, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play No. 20 Endicott in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at North Field and held Endicott to a combined eight hits in its 3-1 and 6-0 wins for the first sweep in the series since 2007.

This is the first time in school history that Gordon has swept a ranked opponent and Endicott is the highest ranked opponent that Gordon has ever defeated. They last defeated a ranked opponent when they defeated No. 24 Suffolk last season 8-5.

In game one, the teams combined for eight hits, but also stranded 15 runners on base in the first six innings of the game. The Fighting Scots (11-10, 4-2 CCC) broke the tie in the top of the seventh inning as Travis Benoit singled down the left side to score Addison Tarr. The Gulls (16-5, 4-2 CCC) tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double by Michael DeDonato with two outs. Gordon forced a line out to centerfield on the next at-bat to send the game to extra innings. In the top of the ninth, Daniel Quint scored off a throwing error by the first baseman and Erik Gauer drove in Christian Hodge with a single to make it a 3-1 game. Endicott put two runners on base with no outs to start the bottom of the ninth. Gordon then forced a ground out and Benoit threw Dan Cacciola out at third to give them two outs. The Fighting Scots forced a fly out with the tying run at-bat to seal the win.

Benoit went 2-for-4 with one RBI, a double, and a stolen base. Quint batted 1-for-2 with one run and was hit by a pitch twice. Hodge went 1-for-4 with a stolen base.

Mark Gadaleta started the game, pitched six innings, and allowed zero runs off of three hits. Erik Gauer picked up his first career win as he pitched the final two innings and allowed zero runs off of two hits.

In game two, Gordon scored four runs in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead. John Lagerfeldt hit an RBI double to score Willey, Matt Moffatt singled to drive in Gauer, Lagerfeldt scored off a throwing error by the pitcher, and Joseph Mack scored Moffatt with a single up the middle. Willey stole home in the top of the sixth to stretch the lead to five runs. In the top of the seventh, Hodge drove in Tarr with a sacrifice fly to right field to make it a 7-0 game. The Fighting Scots held the Gulls to two hits and forced to leave four runners on base.

Tarr went 2-for-3 with one run. Mack batted 2-for-3 with one RBI. Willey went 1-for-2 with two runs and a career-high two stolen bases.

Joe Pedulla picked up his CCC-leading sixth win and third shutout of the season as he pitched all seven innings and struck out four batters.
