WENHAM, Mass. — Gordon hosted Wentworth in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Brigham Athletic Complex and stopped two scoring chances in the last minute of the game in its 9-8 victory.
The Leopards (5-7, 1-4 CCC) started the game with three straight goals in the first five minutes of action for an early 3-0 lead.
Xander Miller and
Nick Palandjian both scored in the next six minutes to make it a 3-2 game. Jacod Eldred scored with three seconds left in the first quarter to stretch the lead back out to two goals. Neither team scored in the second quarter as they combined for 14 shots to make it a 4-2 game at halftime.
In the second half, Gordon scored two goals in the first three minutes to tie the game at 4-4. Wentworth scored two goals to one goal for the Fighting Scots in the last seven minutes of the third quarter to make it a 6-5 game going into the final quarter. Miller and Palandjian scored consecutive goals again in the 46
th and 47
th minute respectively to give Gordon a 7-6 lead. Brad Krueger tied the game with an unassisted goal a minute later and 12:36 left in the game.
Austin Early and
Jason Dantona scored in the next eight minutes to make it a 9-7 game. Eldred scored again three minutes later to cut the lead to one goal with 1:29 left. The Leopards won the ensuing face-off, but Ben Coakely's shot was saved with 1:02 left. The Fighting Scots then turned the ball over on their clear attempt to give Wentworth one more shot.
Noah Johnson sealed the win by causing Dolan McCarthy to turn the ball over and recovering the ground ball with seven seconds remaining.
Palandjian led the team with three goals and also grabbed two ground balls. Dantona and Miller both scored two goals.
Luke Tremblay grabbed a career-high six ground balls and caused a career-best four turnovers.
Billy Biegun won 11 face-offs and grabbed two ground balls.
Jay Gallipo recorded ten saves and faced 29 shots.
Gordon next travels to play Salve Regina in CCC play April 18 at 7 p.m.
