WENHAM, Mass. — Gordon hosted Wentworth in Commonwealth Coast Conference action for Senior Day at the Brigham Athletic Complex and put 32 of its 39 shots on goal in its 19-14 win.
The Fighting Scots (7-7, 4-1 CCC) started off the game with three straight goals in the first eight minutes for 3-0 lead. The Leopards (6-6, 1-4 CCC) responded with four straight goals in the next 11 minutes to take a 4-3 lead. Gordon outscored them 4-2 the last 11 minutes of the first half to make it a 7-6 game at halftime.
In the second half, the Fighting Scots stretched the lead to five goals with goals by
Olivia McCarrick,
Paige Thompson, and two goals by
Katelyn Dyer. Kaitlyn Darveau cut the lead to four goals with an unassisted goal in the 39
th minute. Gordon then scored three straight goals to make it a 14-7 game. The Leopards cut the lead back down to four goals with a 4-1 run in the next eight minutes of play. The Fighting Scots sealed the win by outscoring Wentworth 4-3 in the last 10:18 of the game.
McCarrick tied her career-high with eight goals after she also scored eight goals against the Leopards last season. She also tied for the team lead with six draw controls and grabbed three ground balls. Thompson tied her career-best with four goals, dished out a career-high three assists, and tied her career-best with three caused turnovers.
Melanie Dwyer led the team with seven ground balls.
Kaitlyn Ober recorded nine saves in 42 minutes of playing time.
Gordon next travels to take on Salve Regina in CCC play April 18 at 4 p.m.
