BRISTOL, R.I. — Gordon went on the road to play Roger Williams in Commonwealth Coast Conference play at Paolino Field and recorded ten hits in its 5-1 and 2-1 losses.
In game one, the Hawks (16-14, 6-4 CCC) got on the board in the bottom of the third inning as Chris Bosco grounded out to shortstop that scored Anthony Dominguez. The Fighting Scots tied the game in the top of the fourth as
Matt Moffat singled to right field to drive in
John Lagerfeldt. Roger Williams added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 5-1 game. Gordon was able to put one runner on base in the top of the seventh, but could not drive in any runs to seal the win for the Hawks.
Daniel Quint batted 2-for-4 while Lagerfeldt went 1-for-2 with one run, one walk, and a stolen base.
Derek Hudson pitched a complete game, allowed one earned run on six hits, and had five strikeouts.
In game two, Roger Williams scored off an RBI single by Shane Nowak in the bottom of the third to make it a 1-0 game. The Fighting Scots tied the game in the top of the seventh with an RBI double by
Alec Willey that scored Lagerfeldt. They forced the Hawks into one pop out and two ground outs and in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. The teams combined for zero hits and Roger Williams left two runners on base in the eighth and ninth innings to send the game into the tenth inning. In the top of the tenth,
Joseph Mack was hit by a pitch with two outs.
Addison Tarr grounded out to shortstop in the next at-bat. The Hawks started the bottom of the tenth with a single by Eli Camner and a walk by Danny Roth. Nowak was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with zero outs. Justin Stone was hit by a pitch in the next-at bat to score the game-winning run for Roger Williams.
Quint went 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Lagerfeldt batted 1-for-4 with one run. Willey went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Joe Pedulla pitched nine innings and struck out eight batters.
Gordon next hosts Eastern Nazarene in CCC action tomorrow April 22 at 1 p.m.
