Golden Bears Take Down Scots With Second Half Comeback

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play Western New England in its last Commonwealth Coast Conference regular season game at Golden Bear Stadium and attempted 34 shots in its 16-15 loss.

The Fighting Scots (7-10, 4-4 CCC) started off the game with goals by Paige Thompson and Hannah Bourk in the first four minutes of action. The Golden Bears (7-10, 5-3 CCC) got on the board in the eighth minute with a goal by Reilly Miller. Olivia McCarrick stretched the lead to two goals with an unassisted goal in the 12th minute. Miller scored again two minutes later to make it a 3-2 game. Greta Moore scored in the 15th minute to stretch the lead back out to two goals. Eileen Ruby scored an unassisted goal in the 17th minute to cut the deficit to one goal. Moore and Thompson each scored in the next three minutes to give Gordon a 6-3 lead. Each team scored three goals in the last ten minutes of the half to make it a 9-6 game entering halftime.

In the second half, Western New England scored four straight goals to take a 10-9 lead. Thompson tied the game in the 38th minute with an unassisted goal. Ruby scored again in the 39th minute to make it an 11-10 game. McCarrick received a pass from Thompson and scored one minute later to tie the game at 11-11. The Golden Bears responded by scoring three goals in the next six minutes to create a three-goal advantage. Katelyn Dyer scored twice and Thompson scored once in the next eight minutes to tie the game at 14-14 with 6:52 left. Western New England scored twice in the next three minutes to go up 16-14 with 4:03 remaining. Dyer scored off a pass from McCarrick in the 59th minute to cut the deficit to one goal. The Fighting Scots won the ensuing draw control, but turned the ball over with 28 seconds left to seal the win for the Golden Bears.

Dyer scored four goals, won four draw controls, and grabbed three ground balls. Thompson tied her career-high with four goals, dished out two assists, and tied her career-best with three caused turnovers. Moore led the team with six draw controls and also scored three goals. Molly Guthrie led the team with four ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Gordon will now enter the CCC Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will travel to play No. 4 seed Salve Regina April 28 at 1 p.m. The Seahawks won the first meeting this season 18-12 at home.
