BRISTOL, R.I. — No. 6 seed Gordon played No. 2 seed Roger Williams in Game 6 of the CCC Tournament at Paolino Field and recorded 12 hits in its 7-2 win to advance to the Pod B Final.
The Fighting Scots (18-17) struck first in the top of the first inning as
John Lagerfeldt grounded out to the pitcher to score
Chris Leavitt. They scored two three more runs in the top of the second as
Erik Gauer hit an RBI single to drive in
Matt Moffat and Leavitt hit a two-RBI single that scored
Joseph Mack and Gauer to put them up 4-0. In the top of the fourth, Mack scored from third off a double play to stretch the lead to five runs. The Hawks (19-21) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with Dean DePreta scoring off a wild pitch. Gordon added two more runs in the top of the fifth as Benoit hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score
Addison Tarr and Moffat scored off an error by the shortstop. Roger Williams cut the lead to five runs in the bottom of the eighth as Shane Nowak hit an RBI single to drive in Chris Bosco. They made it a 7-3 game in the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run by Danny Roth. The Fighting Scots sealed the win by forcing two ground outs and a fly out.
Leavitt batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run. Benoit went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Gauer batted 1-for-5 with one RBI and one run.
Derek Hudson pitched a complete game, allowed two earned runs off of seven hits, and struck out three batters.
Gordon now advances to the Pod B Final where they will take on No. 3 seed Western New England tomorrow May 7 at 12 p.m. They will need two wins against them to advance to the CCC Baseball Tournament Championship Series.
