Scots Sink Vikings in Season Opener

SALEM, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play Salem State in non-conference action for its season opener at Alumni Field and put ten shots on goal in its 2-0 victory.

The Fighting Scots (1-0) were aggressive early as they received two penalty corners in the 12th minute taken by Sabrina Jandreau. Jandreau was then fouled to set up a penalty stroke that she converted in the 13th minute to give Gordon a 1-0 lead. They did not allow the Vikings (0-1) to take a shot until the 20th minute. Jillian Danton's shot in the 25th minute was saved by Julia Altman to keep the game at 1-0. Jandreau scored her second goal in the 32nd minute that was assisted by Emma Ellsworth to make it a 2-0 game. Salem State received a penalty corner in the 33rd minute, but were held without a shot to make it a 2-0 game at halftime.

In the second half, the Vikings attempted two shots in the first 13 minutes with one being saved by Altman and the other shot was blocked. The Fighting Scots were held without a shot until the 56th minute when Rosalind Keeley put a shot on goal that was saved by Kaitlyn O'Shea. They kept up the offensive pressure by putting six of their next seven shots on goal. Gordon kept possession for most of the second half as they only allowed one shot to seal the win.

Jandreau scored two goals to start off the season after scoring five goals last season.

Altman recorded three saves and faced five shots.

The Fighting Scots will host Colby-Sawyer tomorrow Sept. 1 in their home opener at 1 p.m.
