WENHAM, Mass. — Gordon picked up two wins on the second day of the Gordon Invitational at the Bennett Center with 3-0 sweeps of Framingham State and MCLA.
In the first match, the Fighting Scots (3-1) took the first set 25-14 over the Rams (1-2). The teams traded points until they were tied at 5-5. Gordon then went on a 11-2 run to take a 16-7 lead. They closed out the set with a 9-7 run.
The Fighting Scots took the second set 25-19 with 15 kills and a .419 hitting percentage. Framingham State started the set with a 12-10 run. Gordon responded with a 9-3 run to take a six-point lead. They closed out the set by scoring four out of the next eight points.
In the third set, the Fighting Scots recorded a match-high 16 kills and held the Rams to only six kills to take the set 25-21.
Jamie Tafoya led Gordon with 11 kills.
Amanda Snyder recorded ten kills, five digs, and two block assists.
Ashlyn Gergins handed out 35 assists with four kills and four digs.
Jenny Curtiss led the team with 11 digs and also had three assists.
In the second match, Gordon took the first set 25-22 as they recorded 15 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. They started off the set with a 10-4 run before the Trailblazers (1-2) cut the lead to one point. They traded points until they were tied 21-21. The Fighting Scots closed out the set by scoring four out of the next five points.
Gordon won the second set 25-12 with a match-high 17 kills. Snyder and
Mackenzie Hinds combined for nine kills in the set.
The Fighting Scots closed out the match by taking the third set 25-16. MCLA kept it close for much of the set until Gordon scored two points off a service error and attack error to make it a 16-14 game. They then sealed the win by outscoring the Trailblazers 9-2 the rest of the set.
Snyder led the team with 11 kills and tied for the team lead with five aces. Hinds also recorded five aces to go along with ten kills and six digs. Gergins handed out 33 assists and also had four digs and three kills. Curtiss recorded ten digs and three assists.
After today's matches, Gergins has broken the 1,000-assist mark and now has 1,001 career assists.
Snyder was named Gordon Invitational MVP and Gergins was named to the Gordon Invitational All-Tournament Team.
The Fighting Scots next host Lasell in non-conference action Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.
