Scots Blaze By Lasers

WENHAM, Mass. — Gordon hosted Lasell in non-conference action at the Bennett Center and recorded 50 kills in its 3-1 victory.

The Fighting Scots (4-1) took the first set 25-16 over the Lasers (0-5). Gordon scored the first point in the set off an attack error by Juliana Denning and never trailed as they recorded 12 kills and a .242 hitting percentage.

Lasell won the second set 26-24 after overcoming a 15-8 deficit midway through the set. They responded by outscoring the Fighting Scots 14-7 to tie the score at 22-22. Gordon scored two straight points off a service error by Dani Coughlin and an attack error by Corina Lombardi to make it a 24-22 game and set point. The Lasers closed out the set by scoring four straight points.

The Fighting Scots won the third set 25-18 and recorded 12 kills. The teams traded points back and forth for much of the set until it was tied at 14-14. Gordon would close out the set with an 11-4 run and go up 2-1.

In the fourth set, the Fighting Scots recorded a match-high .476 hitting percentage as they won the fourth set 25-8 to seal the win. They also held Lasell to a match-low two kills and -.174 hitting percentage.

Amanda Snyder recorded 12 kills, seven digs, and three aces. Jamie Tafoya also had 12 kills and recorded two aces.  Ashlyn Gergins dished out 36 assists and also had eight digs, four kills, and three aces. Jenny Curtiss led the team with 19 digs while Jacque Fitzgerald led the team with four block assists.

Gordon next travels for its first road game to take on MIT in non-conference play tomorrow Sept. 5 at 6 p.m.
