CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play No. 17 MIT in its first road game of the season at Rockwell Cage and recorded 18 kills in its 3-0 loss.
The Engineers (5-0) took the first set 25-11 as they had 14 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. MIT started the set with a 10-4 run before scoring ten out of the next 12 points to take a 20-6 lead. The Fighting Scots (4-2) scored five out of the next six points to cut the deficit to 11 points. The Engineers responded with a 5-1 run to take the set.
MIT won the second set 25-9 as they held Gordon to two kills and a -.190 hitting percentage. The teams traded points for the first four serves to tie the game at 2-2. The Engineers then went on a 13-2 run to take a 15-4 lead. They closed out the set with a 10-5 run to give them a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, MIT recorded a match-high 16 kills and .640 hitting percentage to win the set 25-11. They started the match with an 8-5 run before scoring four straight points to take a seven-point lead. The Fighting Scots cut the lead to six points with kills by
Amanda Snyder and
Jordan Shaduk before the Engineers sealed the set and the match with a 12-4 run.
Mackenzie Hinds led the team with seven kills. Snyder recorded a team-high seven digs and also had five kills.
Ashlyn Gergins dished out 17 assists and also had two digs.
Gordon is back in action Sept. 7 as they take on Bowdoin and Maine-Presque Isle on the first day of the Brandeis Invitational at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively.
