WENHAM, Mass. — Gordon hosted Colby in non-conference play at the Brigham Athletic Complex and won the game 1-0 on
Nate Boyer's golden goal in the 96
th minute.
The Mules (1-2) got off to a quick start in the game as they put three shots on goal in the first two minutes of action that were all saved by
Wesley Sprague. They did not allow the Fighting Scots (3-2) to get off a shot until the ninth minute as
Noah Craig's shot was blocked. Colby continued the pressure on offense as Jeff Rosenberg and Cam Clouse put shots on goal in the 33
rd minute that were stopped by Sprague.
Travis Singh put up a shot in the 44
th minute that was saved by Dan Carlson to keep the game tied at 0-0 entering halftime.
In the second half, Gordon held a slight advantage 7-6 in shots against the Mules.
Josh Beveridge put two shots on goal with one in the 70
th minute and one in the 72
nd minute, but both were stopped by Carlson.
Noah Craig attempted the last shot in the half for the Fighting Scots in the 83
rd minute that was also saved by Carlson. Colby had four scoring opportunities in the last four minutes of regulation, with two being on goal. Sprague stopped Garrett Dickey's shot with 43 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime.
Neither team was able to set up a good scoring opportunity in the first couple of minutes of overtime.
Tyler Modzeleski set up the golden goal by dribbling the ball up the left sideline and then across the baseline. He then passed the ball to the right side of the net to a wide open Boyer who put the ball in the back of the net to clinch the victory with his first career goal.
Sprague recorded eight saves and his first shutout of the season while facing 13 shots.
Gordon next travels to play the University of New England in its CCC opener Sept. 15 at 2:30 p.m.
