WENHAM, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play the University of New England in its Commonwealth Coast Conference opener at Barbara J. Hazard Field and put 13 shots on goal in its 5-0 win.
The Fighting Scots (4-2, 1-0 CCC) started off the game by attempting three shots in the first four minutes of action. That led to their first goal by
Tyler Modzeleski in the sixth minute off a pass from
Stephen Heintz. The Nor'easters (1-4, 0-1 CCC) put a shot on goal in the sixth minute by Callum Heaslewood that was saved by
Wesley Sprague.
Jarvin Ramirez scored in the tenth minute to make it a 2-0 game. He added another goal eight minutes later to increase the lead to three goals. The University of New England attempted three more shots the rest of the half with Cody Kennedy's shot in the 37
th minute being stopped by Sprague to keep the game at 3-0 entering halftime.
Gordon added two more goals in the second half.
Josh Beveridge scored his first goal of the season off a pass from
Jarvin Ramirez in the 48
th minute to make it a 4-0 game. Modzeleski scored his second goal of the game off a pass from Ramirez in the 56
th minute. The Nor'easters attempted four shots the rest of the way with three being on goal. All three were saved by
Brody Veleber.
Sprague stopped two shots in the first half while Veleber recorded three saves in the second half.
This is the second game this season that Modzeleski has scored two goals in a game after also scoring two goals against Brandeis. Ramirez had career highs with two goals and two assists for six points.
The Fighting Scots next host Springfield in non-conference action Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.
