Scots Hunt Down Sharks

BOSTON — Gordon traveled to play Simmons in non-conference action at the Holmes Sports Center and recorded a season-high 55 kills in its 3-2 win.

The Fighting Scots (6-4) won the first set 25-22 over the Sharks (3-5). The set started off with both teams being evenly matched until they were tied at 9-9. Simmons went on a 10-3 run to take a 19-12 lead. Gordon responded by scoring six straight points to cut the deficit to one point. They then scored seven out of the next ten points to take the set.

In the second set, the Fighting Scots recorded match-highs of 15 kills and a .300 hitting percentage to win the set 25-18. Gordon started the set with a 12-8 run for a four-point lead. The Sharks responded by scoring five straight points to take a 13-12 lead. The Fighting Scots closed out the set with a 13-6 run to take the set.

Simmons won the third set 25-22 as they built up a seven-point lead with a 20-13 run to start the set. Gordon cut the lead to three with a 6-2 run. The teams traded points until the Sharks led 24-20. Mackenzie Hinds recorded two straight kills to cut the lead to two points. Faith Gray-Williams sealed the set with a kill.

In the fourth set, Simmons recorded ten kills and won the set 25-19. They built up a 9-0 lead to start the set before the Fighting Scots responded by scoring five straight points. Gordon went on a 11-9 run to cut the lead to two points. The Sharks closed out the set with a 7-3 run to force the fifth set.

The Fighting Scots won the fifth set 15-11 as they recorded seven kills and recorded two blocks. Simmons built up a 6-3 lead before Gordon scored five straight points to take an 8-6 lead. The Sharks scored two consecutive points to tie the set at 8-8. The Fighting Scots responded by scoring four out of the next five points, with two points coming on kills by Jamie Tafoya, to build up a 13-9 lead. Simmons recorded kills on the next two points to cut the lead back down to two points. Gordon closed out the set and the match off a service error by Riley Roberge and a block by Jacque Fitzgerald and Hinds.

Amanda Snyder recorded a season-high 19 kills and also had three aces along with three block assists. Hinds tied her career-high with 17 digs and also had 11 kills. Tafoya also hit double-digits in kills with 11 while also two block assists. Ashlyn Gergins tallied a season-high 46 assists and also had 11 digs. Jenny Curtiss recorded 27 digs and four assists.

The Fighting Scots next travel to Bridgewater to play a tri-match against Wheaton and Bridgewater State Sept. 15. They will play the Lyons at 1 p.m. and the host Bears at 3 p.m.
