Scots Split Tri-Match With Lyons and Bears

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play a tri-match against Wheaton and Bridgewater State at the Tinsley Center and split the matches with a 3-1 loss to Wheaton and a 3-1 win over Bridgewater State.

In the first match, the Fighting Scots (7-5) took the first set 25-18 over the Lyons (11-1) as they recorded a match-high .282 hitting percentage.

Wheaton won the second set 25-22 as they recorded match highs with 13 kills and a .286 hitting percentage and won the third set 26-24 with 12 kills in the set.

The Lyons closed out the match with a 25-14 win in the fourth set as they recorded 11 kills to just five kills for Gordon.

Amanda Snyder recorded a double-double with 12 digs and 11 kills. Jamie Tafoya also had 11 kills and contributed three aces and three digs. Ashlyn Gergins posted her fourth double-double of the season as she tallied 28 assists and 11 digs. Jenny Curtiss led the team with 14 digs and also contributed six assists.

In the second match, the Bears (1-4) took the first set 25-23 as they recorded a match-high .217 hitting percentage.

The Fighting Scots took the second set 25-17 and the third set 25-7. They recorded match-highs of 15 kills and a .536 hitting percentage in the third set.

Gordon closed out the match by winning the fourth set 25-19 with 14 kills and a .343 hitting percentage. They held Bridgewater State to nine kills and a .053 hitting percentage.

Four players reached double-digit kills in the match. Tafoya led the team with 16 kills. Snyder posted another double-double with 15 digs and 11 kills. Jacque Fitzgerald tied her career-high with 11 kills while Marla Batson set a new career-high with ten kills. Gergins recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 40 assists and 11 digs.

The Fighting Scots will next host Roger Williams in its Commonwealth Coast Conference opener Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
