AMHERST, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play Amherst in its last non-conference game of the season and attempted ten shots in its 2-0 loss.
Neither team was able to generate much offensively as neither team attempted a shot in the first ten minutes of action. The Mammoths (3-2) put up the first shot in the 11
th minute with Dane Lind's shot being saved by
Wesley Sprague. They received another scoring opportunity in the 12
th minute as Cutler Coleman was fouled in the goalie box to set up a penalty kick. He converted the kick to put Amherst up 1-0. The Fighting Scots (5-4) did not attempt a shot until the 24
th minute with
Ian Burkhart's shot going wide of the net. They put up three shots in a two-minute span between the 33
rd and 35
th minute.
Jarvin Ramirez put a shot on goal that was stopped by Bernie White in the 33
rd minute,
Noah Craig's shot was blocked the 34
th minute, and Craig put a shot on goal in the 35
th minute that was saved by White. Ramirez put another shot on goal in the 38
th minute that was saved by White to keep the Mammoths up 1-0 entering halftime.
In the second half, Amherst held a 6-1 shot advantage over Gordon in the first 27 minutes of action. The Mammoths were granted a corner kick in the 74
th minute that led to a shot by Jimmy McMillan that was blocked. McMillan recovered the blocked shot and scored to put Amherst up 2-0. The Fighting Scots put up three more shots in the last 16 minutes of play that were all saved by White.
Stephen Heintz put a shot on goal in the 76
th minute,
Tyler Modzeleski put a shot on goal in the 83
rd minute, and
Craig's shot in the 89
th minute was stopped by White to seal the win.
Wesley Sprague recorded two saves and faced 16 shots.
Gordon next hosts CCC opponent Wentworth for its Homecoming game Sept. 29 at 3 p.m.
