Nor'easters Blow By Scots

BIDDEFORD, Maine — Gordon traveled to take on the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference play at UNE Blue Bolt Field and attempted six shots in its 6-2 loss.

The Nor'easters (5-4, 4-0 CCC) came out aggressive on offense as they three shots on goal in the first 13 minutes of play. The Fighting Scots (3-8, 0-4 CCC) attempted three shots in a ten-second span in the 15th minute. Amanda Poulin's shot was blocked and she recovered the ball and put a ball on goal that was stopped by Liz Sargent. Mackenzie Gray then scored to put Gordon up 1-0. Paige Blake scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Caroline Conte in the 20th minute to make it a 2-0 game. The University of New England scored their first goal in the 24th minute as Sydney Liptak received a pass from Kendra McDonald and beat the keeper. Brooke Lemerise scored off a pass from Reanna Boulay with 28 seconds left in the half to make it a 2-2 game entering halftime.

In the second half, The Nor'easters broke the tie with a goal by Nicole Grady 36 seconds into the half to make it a 3-2 game. They attempted five shots and held the Fighting Scots without a shot in the next 14 minutes of action. Boulay scored in the 50th minute off a pass from Bailey Lynch to stretch the lead to two goals. The University of New England sealed the win by scoring two more goals, one in the 63rd minute and one in the 67th minute. Gordon only attempted one shot in the second half with Cara Goudie's shot in the 69th minute being saved by Sargent.

Julia Altman recorded 13 saves and faced 29 shots.

The Fighting Scots next host CCC foe Western New England for their Homecoming game Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. The Golden Bears swept the season series last season with a 7-4 win at home and a 3-1 win on the road.
