FITCHBURG, Mass. — Gordon traveled to Fitchburg State for its first road game of the season at Elliot Field and attempted 16 shots in its 2-1 victory.
The Fighting Scots (2-1) struck first in the 20
th minute as
Tyler Modzeleski scored his third goal of the season. The Falcons (1-2) tied the game in the 33
rd minute as Nolan Brassard scored off a pass from Yannick DePina.
Micah Craig's shot went high above the goal in the 44
th minute to send the game to halftime tied at 1-1.
In the second half, Gordon put pressure on Fitchburg State's defense as they attempted eight shots and were stout on defense as they only allowed one shot. That pressure led to
Stephen Heintz's first career goal in the 73
rd minute which gave the Fighting Scots a 2-1 lead. Gordon attempted four more shots in the game and did not allow the Falcons to get off a shot in the last 18 minutes of action to seal the win.
The Fighting Scots next travel to play Eastern Connecticut State in non-conference play Sept. 7 at 4 p.m.
