Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Late Tally Lifts Hawks Past Scots

Gordon College Field Hockey hosted the Roger Williams Hawks in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest this afternoon, where the Hawks fired in the winning goal with just over three minutes left in regulation to take the 3-2 win.

How It Happened
  • Gordon's Cara Goudie didn't waste anytime, as the sophomore knocked in the Scots' first goal with only 83 seconds into the game.
  • The Hawks nearly tied it in the opening minutes of the second quarter, but the Scot defense was a brick wall, keeping hold of their narrow lead. It looked as though Gordon would enter the half with the edge, but RWU's Hannah Palmer (So./Essex Junction, Vt.) had other plans as the sophomore struck the equalizer past Gordon keeper Julia Altman to tie it up at one-all with just 20 ticks left until the break.
  • In the 39th minute, Brooklyn Cenatiempo (So./Trumbull, Conn.) put the Hawks up by one, however, that lead was short lived as Gordon's Kieran Thompson found Natalie Adamez who roped a shot from the arc to tie it up at 2-2 heading into the fourth.
  • Both sides were aggressive in the fourth, but it was the Hawks who went ahead as Emma Stevens (Jr./Brewster, Mass.) sent in a penalty corner to teammate Alex Coppinger (Sr./Guilderland, N.Y.) who hit a well struck ball into the back of the net to go ahead, 3-2 and secure the victory for the visitors.
Beyond The Box Score
  • With the assist today, Kieran Thompson is two away from her career-high where she registered five in the 2017 season.
  • Cara Goudie's goal today put her in fifth place in the CCC in goals.
  • Gordon returns to action on Monday, October 14 to host Saint Joseph's (Maine) at 4 p.m. at the Brigham Athletic Complex.
