Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Third Quarter Goal Lifts Seahawks Past Scots

In a riveting matchup between the Seahawks of Salve Regina University and visiting Gordon College Field Hockey today at Gaudet Field, the host Seahawks pulled off a 3-2 win on their home turf to capture their fifth Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) win of the season (10-5 overall, 5-4 CCC), dropping the Fighting Scots to 6-11 overall (2-7 CCC).

How It Happened

  • The Seahawks scored two goals in the opening 10 minutes courtesy of Ashley Cody (Sr./Pawling, N.Y.) and Oliva St. Jean (Sr./Goffstown, N.H.) to put the Scots on their heels early.
  • Refusing to go down without a fight, Gordon's Kieran Thompson inched the Scots closer off a helper from Cara Goudie in the 13th minute and teammate Mackenzie Gray leveled the game at 25:39 after finishing an Emma Ellsworth assist.
  • The Seahawks quickly took control at the start of the third quarter, however, as Tori Bickel (Jr./Harleysville, Pa.) battled down low to push home an unassisted tally less than two minutes into the period for what proved to be the eventual game-winner.
  • The Scots' lone shot in the final frame came in the game's waning seconds and had potential to force overtime, but Salve netminder Casey Febus (Fr./Soudertown, Pa.) turned away a Thompson attempt to preserve the one-goal win.

Beyond the Box Score

  • Mackenzie Gray's goal marked her first of the 2019 season.
  • Gordon is 23-13-0 all-time versus Salve Regina. However, the Seahawks have now won nine of the last 10 meetings.
  • The Scots play host to CCC foe Nichols College on Saturday, October 26 for Senior Day at the Brigham Athletic Complex, 12 p.m.
