In a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup today at the Brigham Athletic Complex, Gordon College Field Hockey celebrated Senior Day with a 2-1 victory over the visiting Bison of Nichols College. With the win the Fighting Scots earn their third CCC win and improve to 7-11 on the season, while the Bison drop to 5-11 overall and 2-9 in conference play.
Gordon senior captain
Kieran Thompson and junior
Natalie Adamez guided the effort for the Scots with a goal apiece, while netminder
Julia Altman registered eight saves to preserve the one-goal win.
How It Happened
- After a shotless first frame, the Scots got the offensive fires burning in the second to outpace their guests by a 5-1 margin, one of which found the back of the cage when Thompson netted her second of the season off a Cara Goudie feed at the 20 minute mark.
- Nichols' offense was quiet for the remainder of the first half but made its presence felt just three and a half minutes into the third quarter when Erin Kelley booked the equalizer on a solo effort.
- Not to be denied on Senior Day, however, Adamez responded five minutes later with an unassisted tally to put her Scots back on top, 2-1.
- Despite a concerted effort from the Bison in the final frame to bring the game back to level, Altman stepped up to deny five shots and keep the Scots' one-goal lead intact through the final whistle.
