Electric Three-Game Rally Sparks Scots To 3-2 CCC Win

In a captivating Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest against the visiting Western New England Golden Bears tonight, Gordon College Women's Volleyball came back from being down 0-2 to win 3-2 for its third CCC victory of the season.

For the Fighting Scots, Ashlyn Gergins registered 47 assists and 15 digs, Jenny Curtiss had 43 digs, Jamie Tafoya slammed down 17 kills, Amanda Snyder booked 16 kills and 13 digs, and Marla Batson had 11 kills.

How It Happened
  • Down 0-2, the Fighting Scots battled in a pivotal third set trailing 21-19. The Scots rattled off five straight points to go on top, 24-21 before taking the 25-22 victory to force a fourth set.
  • Tafoya and Jacque Fitzgerald stuffed an attack attempt from WNE's Ashley Matthews (Sr./Salem, N.H.) to give the Scots a 15-10 lead. Tafoya later recorded her fourth kill of the frame to widen the gap to 22-16. WNE knocked down a pair of kills but it wasn't enough as Gordon secured the 25-19 to tie it up at twos.
  • A Snyder service ace gave the Scots an 11-2 lead in the deciding set. Not going down easy, the Golden Bears went on a 7-0 run to close the gap to 11-9. WNE and Gordon were knotted at 14-all before tying seven times and trading as many leads until the Scots used the energy of the home crowd to power through to a memorable 22-20 fifth set win and overall 3-2 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Jenny Curtiss booked a career-high 43 digs. Her 43 digs also marks a new Gordon 5-set school record. The previous record was set by Maggie Risma (42) in 2015.
  • Marla Batson also had a career day with 11 kills.
  • The Scots are back on the court on Saturday, October 26 as they host Nichols at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
