Gordon College Men's Soccer welcomed the Nor'easters from the University of New England (UNE) to the quad this afternoon in front of crowd of fans on Homecoming weekend. The Scots took home the 4-1 lead of the Nor'easters to secure their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) win of the season.
How it Happened
- The Scots got off three shots in the first eight minutes of the game but the first serious threat to either side came when UNE's Callum Heaslewood (Sr./London, England) fired a shot on goal but could not connect as Gordon keeper, Brody Veleber denied him to keep the game at an even 0-0. Gordon found themselves on their attacking end in the 18th minute of the game when Jarvin Ramirez crossed the ball into the box and found Ryan Modzeleski, who headed the ball towards the net. The header looked to be going too far right but then freshman Julius Swaim came diving in and headed the ball past the keeper to give the Scots the 1-0 lead.
- After a gritty effort Rameriz found himself standing face-to-face with UNE's keeper for a penalty kick. Upon the referee's whistle Ramirez fired a low ball to the left side of the net that snuck by the goalie to extend his team's lead. Shortly after, Ramirez found himself in the same situation and the only difference is Rameriz placed his second Penalty Kick to the right past the goalie, bringing the score to 3-0 in favor of the Scots.
- To cap off the strong first half, defenseman, Travis Singh, converted a cross from freshman Ben Mollenhauer to give his team the 4-0 advantage going into halftime.
- The Nor'easters got on the board in the 85th minute of the game when Matt Rainville (Jr./Reading, Mass.) found the back of the net off a pass from Colby Obrecht (Sr./Ballston Spa, N.Y.). This would be too little to late as the Scots went on to win 4-1.
The Scots are back in action on Tuesday, October 8 for a 5 p.m. start as they welcome Husson University.
Beyond the Box
- Travis Singh recorded his first goal of the season and of his career in this afternoon's matchup.
