Gordon College Women's Volleyball traveled down Route 128 to square off against the Curry College Colonels in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action tonight and returned home with a 3-2 victory. With the win, the Fighting Scots improve to 9-8 with a 2-2 record in the CCC. The Colonels move to 0-3 in league play with a 10-8 mark overall.
For the Scots, Ashlyn Gergins dished out 44 helpers, Jenny Curtiss had 19 digs, Amanda Snyder had 14 digs and 13 kills, and Jamie Tafoya and Valerie Nilan had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
How It Happened
- Both teams traded short runs to open the match, before the Scots rattled off five-straight points to take the 12-8 edge forcing the Colonels to call a timeout. Curry cut the lead to one as they trailed, 13-12, but Gordon would only let them come within two points (17-15) before the Scots ran away with the 25-18 first set victory.
- Similar to the first set, both squads swapped points early with a flurry of lead changes before Curry used a 6-0 run to go on top 21-17. The Colonels capitalized on a handful of Scot attack errors to take the second set 25-20.
- In the third frame, the Scots jumped out to a 6-1 lead before the Colonels fought back, eventually knotting it up at 11-all. Curry took their first lead of the frame at 21-20 but the Scots buckled down to score five-straight points to take the set, 25-21.
- Not going away easy, the Colonels marched out to a 12-6 lead in the fourth, however, the Scots fought back on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to three and force a Curry timeout. The timeout allowed the Colonels to regroup and win the fourth by a score of 25-16 to tie it up at 2-2.
- Curry and Gordon went back and forth early in the final frame, but the Scots were able to shutdown their hosts and take the 15-7 win for the overall 3-2 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
- Amanda Snyder booked a season-high 13 kills.
- Ashlyn Gergins had now hit the 40-plus assist threshold for the fourth straight game.
- The Scots resume play on Thursday, October 10 at 7 p.m., as they head to Eastern Nazarene for a non-conference tilt.
