Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Lyons Too Much For Scots In Season Opener

Hosting Mount Holyoke College this afternoon in the 2019 season debut for both teams, Gordon College Women's Lacrosse ceded an 18-3 loss at the hands of a talented Lyons squad which saw offensive output from eight different scorers in the win.

Christina Piluso, Emma Hryzan, and Molly Guthrie were responsible for Gordon's three tallies on the day, while Mount Holyoke's effort was paced by Abby Baldwin (Fr./Florence, Mass.) and Julianna Rankin (Jr./Annapolis, Md.) who recorded six and four goals, respectively. The Fighting Scots' Annabel Christenson was busy in net, turning away 12 shots in the loss. Her counterpart, Mia Wysocki (Jr./Longmeadow, Mass.), stopped seven to earn the W.

The Scots look to rebound as they take on non-conference Worcester State University on the road on March 2 at 12 p.m. MHC gets back to work on the same day, welcoming non-NEWMAC opponent Bridgewater State University for a 12 p.m. start.

How It Happened
  • Mount Holyoke wasted little time getting on the board as Rankin booked her first goal of the day just a minute and change into the game off a feed from Baldwin.
  • The Lyons went on to net five more unanswered goals over the next 23 minutes before the Scots' Piluson stopped the run and got her team on the board with four and a half minutes remaining in the frame. MHC responded immediately, however, adding two more goals before the break to establish an 8-1 lead.
  • Things looked to be trending similarly in the second as MHC's Reina Torrez-Miner (Jr./East Lansing, Mich.) and Baldwin tacked on the first two goals of the half, but Gordon's Guthrie scored off a solo effort at the 20:28 mark to cut the Lyons' run short.
  • Another 3-0 streak by the visitors was stopped by Hryzan's goal off an Olivia McCarrick helper midway through the half, but it was all Lyons from then on as they finished the game with five goals and buckled down defensively to keep Gordon's offense and comeback hopes at bay.
