Blue Devils Stall Fighting Scots

In their final tilt of games in Florida, Gordon College Women's Lacrosse fought mightily against Fredonia this afternoon, but was bested by the Blue Devils, 19-15. 

The Fighting Scots return to Wenham, Massachusetts to host New England College on Tuesday, March 19 for a 4 p.m. start as they continue non-conference play.

For Gordon, Olivia McCarrick had a well-balanced day for the Scots, earning 11 draw controls, five assists, four goals, and scooped up four ground balls. Hannah Bourk netted a goal and dished out three assists, while Brenna Otte rattled in a pair of goals.

Fredonia's Madeline Haney (So./Macedon, N.Y.)and Alyssa Kissel (Fr./North Tonawanda) led the way for the Blue Devils with five goals while Jen Kershner  (Sr./Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) netted four goals. 

How It Happened
  • Fredonia scurried out to a early 4-1 lead, but the Scots found the back of the net twice to cut the lead to one. However, the Blue Devils scored four unanswered goals in a six minute span to give Fredonia a comfortable 8-3 lead. The Scots scored five more goals in the half, but they trailed 8-14 going into halftime.
  • The Scots scored three unanswered goals in the beginning of the second half with McCarrick contributing to each of them to bring Gordon to a 11-15 deficit with just over 20 minutes remaining in regulation.
  • Both teams traded goals for the duration with both squads netting four goals each to close out the battle, with the Scots finding their offense but falling to their opponents, 15-19.

  • The Fighting Scots' 15 goals today are the most they've had in a single game this season.
  • Olivia McCarrick notched 3 season-highs: 11 draw controls, five assists, and four goals.
