Gordon Men's Tennis was topped by former Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe, Eastern Nazarene College (ENC), 9-0 in its spring home opener at the Brigham Athletic Complex this afternoon.
The Fighting Scots return to the courts on Saturday, March 30 as they travel to Newport, R.I. to open up CCC play against the Seahawks at 12 p.m. Next up for ENC is a road contest against the Coast Guard Academy tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.Â
In doubles competition, ENC made quick work of Gordon's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take an early 2-0 lead. Though the Scots' top duo of
Nathan Lookwhy and Jonathon Frink held their own at the No. 1 spot to force a tiebreaker, the Lions eventually claimed the 8-7 (8-6) win to leave Gordon winless heading into singles action.
Following strong individual showings, ENC went on to clinch the match after Kyle Pierson (Jr./Redding, Calif.) and Tim Schongen (Fr./Inden, Germany) booked consecutive wins in the sixth and fifth slot, respectively.
Despite the Lions securing the victory, Lookwhy and Frink forced a pair of tiebreakers in their respective head-to-head matchups against the Lions' top-ranked players.
