Monks Serve Fighting Scots Doubleheader Loss

On Day Two of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, the Scots squared off against offensive powerhouse Saint Joseph's College this afternoon suffering a pair of losses, 0-8 in game one and 2-10 in game two.

The Scots look to grab their first win of the 2019 season as they face Ursinus at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow evening.

Game One:
  • The Monks got on the board quickly and often, plating a single run in the first and second, and then adding three more runs in the third and fourth to take a large 8-0 lead. Two Saint Joseph's players batted a 1.000 on the day with Joey Murphy (Sr./Derry, N.H.) going 3-3, crossing the plate three times and Drew Healy (Jr./Rochester, N.H.) went 2-2 with two singles.
  • Grayson Jennings (Sr./Mililani, Hawaii) pitched a gem for the Monks, going six innings, giving up two runs and striking out six.
Game Two:
  • Saint Joseph's looked to have picked up where they left off offensively as they opened up game two with a pair of first inning runs, however the Scots' Mark Gadaleta quieted the Monks' bats for five straight scoreless innings. Gadaleta pitched a successful 6.1 innings, striking out nine opponents. He gave up five hits and four earned runs.
  • John Lagerfeldt tried to initiate offense in the bottom half of the second, leading off the inning with a single up the middle. Lagerfeldt advanced to second on a wild pitch but was stranded as Matt Bergeron (Fr./Salem, N.H.) pitched himself out of the inning.
  • Daniel Quint led the charge in the sixth, ripping a single up the middle and using his speed to steal second and third, putting himself 90 feet from home. However, the senior was unable to cross the plate as Jonathan Marchia (So./Chicopee, Mass.) came in from the bullpen to retire the Scots, leaving two on the bases.
  • The Monks put on a offensive clinic in the top half of the seventh, scoring eight runs, taking a 10-0 lead going into the home half of the inning. The Scots got two runs across in the seventh after a few Monks' miscues, but was handed the 10-2 loss.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The monks have played eight games this season and have scored in double-digits in six of those games.
  • Mark Gadaleta booked a career-high nine strikeouts.
