Golden Bears Roar To 17-9 Win Over Scots

Gordon College Men's Lacrosse welcomed top-ranked Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent, Western New England this evening in a league matchup where the visitors came out on top with a 17-9 victory over the Fighting Scots.

Gordon takes a break from conference play as they travel to Lasell College for a non-CCC contest on Saturday, April 13 with a 3 p.m. start.

For the Scots, Austin Early and Nick Tozier each book themselves a hat trick on the evening, with Tozier adding a pair of assists. Billy Biegun scooped up a team-high five ground balls while Tyer Pauls tallied three in addition to two caused turnovers.

WNE's John Shahpazian (Jr./New Providence, N.J.) and Jared Ward (Sr./Littleton, Mass.) led the way for the Golden Bears, with Shahpazian netting four goals while Ward added four tallies as well as three helpers. Mitch Weiss (So./Westfield, Mass.) grabbed a game-high eight ground balls with teammate, Hunter Cocks (Sr./Walden, N.Y.) coming not to far behind with six ground balls.

How It Happened
  • The Golden Bears were hungry early, slinging in five straight goals in just over seven minutes to take a 5-0 lead midway through the first.
  • Tytus Moen and Tozier tallied a pair of goals in a two minute span to cut the deficit to three. WNE closed out the first with another goal to take a 6-2 lead heading into the second frame.
  • Early rattled in his first of three on the day to make it 9-4 with just over nine minutes to go in the half. However, the Golden Bears finished the second with three goals, making it a 12-4 game at the half.
  • The Scots and Golden Bears each went head-to-head in the third quarter, scoring two goals each with WNE maintaining their lead.
  • Cutting the lead in half was Early with his third goal of the evening, making it 14-7 until Tozier rounded out the scoring for the blue and white, scoring a goal with three second left, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Bears came away with 17-9 victory.
