Scots Mount 11-9 Comeback Over Emerson

Gordon College Baseball welcomed Emerson College today to J. Tec White Field where the Fighting Scots used a big fifth and sixth inning to lift them to a 11-9 victory over the visiting Lions.

The Scots are back in action on Saturday, April 20 as they travel to Brockton, Massachusetts for a critical Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader against Wentworth with a first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.

How It Happened
  • Emerson got on the board quickly, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first and then another in the top of the second to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Both sides were scoreless for the following two innings before Gordon plated five runs in the fifth which was capped off by a two-RBI triple for Christian Hodge, giving Gordon the 5-3 lead.
  • The Lions scored three runs off of three hits in the sixth to regain the slight 6-5 edge.
  • Gordon tied it up at 6-6 in the home half of the sixth before Hodge laced a bases clearing double to center to take a three-run lead. The Scots tacked on one more in the seventh to take a comfortable four-run lead until Emerson fought back to trail by one after a three-run eighth inning for the Lions.
  • Alec Willey drove in Joseph Mack to add an insurance run for the blue and white in the bottom of the eighth which proved to be more than the Scots needed as Gordon secured the 11-9 victory over Emerson.
  • Noah Henkell picked up his second win of the season while Hunter Routhier collected his first save.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Christian Hodge's five RBI's today helped the senior break the career RBI total with 87. The former record was held by Stephen Kefalas who compiled 84 RBI's from 2007-2010.
  • Daniel Quint had a season-high four stolen bases in the win.
