Scots and Leopards Split In CCC Matchup

Gordon College Baseball split a twin bill with Wentworth this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action with the Fighting Scots taking game one by a score of 4-3 while the Leopards came back in the nightcap with a 3-1 victory.

Gordon hits the field again tomorrow as they host conference rival Endicott College for a single game starting at 3:30 p.m. at J Tec. White Field.

Game One
  • Senior, Chris Leavitt opened up the contest with a single up the middle and later scored on a Matt Paulsen single through the right side, giving the Scots an early 1-0 edge.
  • Wentworth answered back in the bottom of the frame as the Leopards crossed the plate twice to go on top, 2-1.
  • In the home half of the fourth, Dan Mitchell (Jr./Avon, Mass.) doubled sending Andrew Elliott (Sr./Rockland, Mass.) home, giving the Leopards a two-run lead.
  • The Fighting Scots orchestrated a two-out rally in the top of the fifth as the blue and white scored three runs on three hits to reclaim the narrow 4-3 lead.
  • Southpaw, Derek Hudson retired the Leopards in order through the next two innings which secured the one-run game one victory for Gordon.
Game Two
  • After two scoreless innings, Wentworth's Elliot drove home Aidan French (So./Chicago, Ill.) to put the home team up one.
  • Wentworth tacked on two more runs in the fourth giving them a three-run lead.
  • In the top of the sixth, Paulsen singled through the left side to bring Daniel Quint home, cutting the deficit to two, but that was the closest the Scots got, as the Leopards won, 3-1.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Chris Leavitt stole a season-high two bases in game one.
  • Daniel Quint leads the CCC with 23 total stolen bases, two shy of Gordon's single-season record.
