Gordon College Men's Lacrosse hosted the University of New England Nor'easters in the Fighting Scots' final Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) home matchup of the regular season and despite a six goal fourth quarter, UNE came out on top, defeating the Scots, 16-15.
Jacob Hryzan spearheaded the scoring for the Fighting Scots, netting six goals,
Dan Arthur chipped in three tallies, while
Austin Early added two goals and three assists in the effort.
Billy Biegun scooped up a game-high 13 ground balls and keeper
Jay Gallipo fended away 14 shots.
UNE's Mitch Mullin (Sr./Cumberland, Maine) led the way for the Nor'easters with five goals and two assists, Garett Bozek (Jr./Nashua, N.H.) added four goals and half as many assists with two, while Alex Zadworny (Sr./Florence, Mass.) assisted on five shots. Netminder, Sam MacKenzie (Jr./Worthington, Ohio) made 17 saves in the victory.
The Fighting Scots return to CCC action on Wednesday, April 24 as they travel to Wentworth for a 7 p.m. start.
How It Happened
- After UNE earned the first goal of the night, Gordon netted four straight goals before UNE stopped the streak with 10 ticks left in the first quarter thanks to an unassisted Mullin tally to cut Gordon's lead to two.
- Gordon led by as many as three in the second frame but UNE scored four times to Gordon's three goals which cut Gordon's lead to one going into halftime, 7-6.
- The Nor'easters came out of the break firing, going on a 3-0 run and then a 4-0 run to go on top for the first time since their first goal of the game taking a 13-9 lead.
- Trailing 15-10 with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation, the Scots rattled in a pair of goals to cut the lead to three with just over six minutes left in the quarter.
- Hryzan and Arthur combined for the last three Gordon goals to cut the lead to one before time ran out with UNE coming away with the 16-15 win.
