Gordon College Women's Lacrosse traveled to Worcester State University in a non-conference matchup against the Lancers, who took the 16-7 victory over the Fighting Scots this rainy afternoon.
Leading the way for the Scots was junior
Lena Larson who netted a game-high four goals.
Brenna Otte,
Olivia McCarrick, and
Molly Guthrie each tallied one goal with McCarrick and Otte dishing out two and one assists, respectively.
Hannah Bourk scooped up a team-high five ground balls in the loss.
The Lancers were spearheaded by a trio of hat tricks from Kelly Austin (Jr./Brimfield, Mass.), Kylie Hill (So./Lunenburg, Mass.), and Madison Brennan (Fr./Pomfret, Conn.). Coley Hayes (So./Norwood, Mass.) followed with two goals of her own and four ground ball pick ups. Lauren Arbec (So./ Fairhaven, Mass.) grabbed five ground balls in the victory.
How It Happened
- The Scots drew first blood when Otte found the back of the net in the first 50 seconds of the game. From there, the Lancers went on to score four unanswered goals, three of which came from Brennan.
- The Lancers run was ended when Guthrie converted on a free position shot to cut the lead in half, 4-2.
- The Lancers scored nine more goals before the Scots were able to get back on the board when Larson was able to convert on a pass from Otte. After that the Lancers scored one more goal to make the score 14-3 going into halftime.
- The Scots started to chip away in the first five minutes of the second half off back-to-back-to-back goals from Larson cutting the Lancers lead to 14-6.
- The Lancers would take two of the goals back when Hill scored two unanswered goals before McCarrick scored the final tally of the game, which gave WSU the 16-7 win.
