In a non-league match-up against Anna Maria this afternoon, Gordon College Baseball wrote its name into the record books with a 27-12 victory over the Amcats. Gordon had an impressive 24 hits including five doubles, five home runs, and a triple in the win.
The Fighting Scots return home on Saturday, April 6 as they host Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Roger Williams in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
How It Happened
- Anna Maria jumped out to a three-run lead in the first, but that was the only lead the Amcats had as the Scots went on a tear an inning later. Christian Hodge led off the top of the second with a solo shot to start the hit parade. In the same inning, Hodge capped off Gordon's eight-run effort with a three-run shot over the left field fence to jump out to a five-run lead.
- Shortly thereafter, Scots seniors Chris Leavitt, Hodge, and Daniel Quint orchestrated a four-run inning with Leavitt leading it off with a double, Hodge notching his third dinger, and Quint rounding it out with the triple to take a 13-6 advantage.
- Gordon stayed hot in the fifth, scoring seven runs on seven hits (three singles, three doubles, and one home run) to go up by 14. Leavitt then opened up the sixth with a solo shot to right field for the Scots' fifth homer of the day.
- The Scots then put up a three-spot in the seventh and eighth inning en route to the 27-12 victory.
Beyond The Box Score

- The Scots' five home runs is also a new school record.
- Gordon's 27 runs is five more runs than the previous single-game record.
- Chris Leavitt joined the record books as well, crossing the plate six times.
- Said Head Coach Rob Mansfield: "Good team win. We're focused on Roger Williams now."
