Roger Williams used late inning heroics to defeat Gordon College Baseball, 5-2 and 8-5 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) sweep at J. Tec White Field this afternoon in Wenham, Massachusetts.
The Fighting Scots take a break from league action as they host Lesley University on Tuesday, April 9 with a first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Game One
- It was scoreless for the first two innings before the Hawks' Chris Boscoe (Sr./North Andover, Mass.) doubled home teammate Justin Stone (Jr./Blackstone, Mass.) to put the visitors up a run. The lead was short lived as the Fighting Scots' crossed the plate to tie it up at 1-1.
- Christian Hodge drove a single up the middle to score John Lagerfeldt to go on top, 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
- The Scots and Hawks were knotted at 2-2 heading into the seventh before Roger Williams put together a three-run frame to go ahead by three which later was all the runs the Hawks needed as they took the 5-2 victory in game one.
Game Two
- Looking to do what they could to get the split, the Scots raced out to an early 2-0 lead in the home half of the first. Gordon tacked on two more in the third to lead by four.
- Roger Williams cut that lead in half after some aggressive base running and timely hitting an inning later.
- Both squads added a tally to their score in the fifth making it 5-3 ballgame in favor of Gordon. However, a RWU's single and a double resulted in a 5-5 game after six innings of work.
- It remained scoreless until the 11th when Boscoe belted a monstrous three-run homerun over the left field fence to put his team up by a score of 8-5 and secure the eventual three-run win as the Hawks didn't allow the Scots to get into scoring position in their final at bat.
Beyond The Box Score
- John Lagerfeldt is on an eight-game hit streak.
- Mark Gadaleta went the distance in game one and did not surrender a walk for his second time this season.
