Taking the field for the second time in as many days, Gordon College Field Hockey rebounded from a narrow season-opening loss yesterday to claim a 3-0 non-conference win over the visiting Raiders of Rivier College this afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex.
Cara Goudie and
Natalie Adamez paced the Fighting Scots' offense with a combined three goals, while Gordon's staunch back line allowed only one shot on the day.
The Scots move to 1-1 overall and return to action on Wednesday, September 4 for a 6 p.m. start against host MIT.
How It Happened
- The Scots' offense came out firing on all cylinders to pepper Rivier keeper Katie Olsen (So./Saugus, Mass.) with seven shots in the opening frame. Despite that pressure, however, it wasn't until the 19th minute that they were able to get on the board when Adamez took advantage of an opportunity in the area and finished off an unassisted effort for the 1-0 lead.
- Carrying her own offensive momentum from last night's game into today, Goudie stepped up in the third period for a pair of tallies– one at 34:24 and the other less than six minutes later– to give Gordon a comfortable lead to ride to the final whistle.
- In total, the Scots outpaced their guests by a wide 23-1 shot margin and an equally impressive 12-2 penalty corner margin, forcing Olsen to make 11 saves on the day.
Beyond the Box Score
- Goudie's two tallies today brings her season total to three, which already eclipses her goal total from last season (2).
- Keeper Julia Altman had a very quiet day in net, as it was Emma Hryzan who picked up the Scots' lone stop with a defensive save at 13:47 in the first.
- The Raiders (0-1) will look to get in the win column on Saturday, September 7 against visiting Westfield State.
