Gordon College Field Hockey traveled to Cambridge, Massachusetts this evening to take on the Engineers of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The Engineers offense proved to be too strong as they defeated the Scots 5-0.
The Scots are on the road again this Saturday, September 7 as they travel to Maine to take on Thomas College for a 2 p.m. start.
How It Happened
- MIT struck first blood three minutes into the game when Devon Goetz (Sr./Rockville, Md.) converted a pass from teammate Paige Forester (Fr./Glencoe, Ill.) to give them the 1-0 lead which would be doubled less than two minutes later when Goetz got an assist of her own after finding Amanda Garofalo (Jr./Fairfield, N.J.), extending the lead to two. Gordon's offense came out attacking in the sixth minute when they were able to draw three pentalty corners and fire off three shots in a span of less than two minutes, but the Engineers defense was able to defuse the Scots' attack and maintain their 2-0 lead. Garofalo added on another goal before the close of the first quarter to give her team the 3-0 advantage.
- After a short rain delay, MIT picked up where they left off, scoring two goals in the second quarter. Those where the last goals the Engineers would score after two defensive stops in the final quarter of play from Gordon teammates Abigail Seay and Avonlea Cummings.
Beyond The Box Score
- The Scots continue their road schedule for three more games until they return to the Brigham Athletic Complex on September 24 to host Western New England.
- Rookie Avonlea Cummings recordered her first career defensive save.
