Gordon College Women's Volleyball hosted the Simmons University Sharks tonight in the Bennett Athletic Center and, despite winning the opening frame, were outpaced by their guests to cede a 3-1 non-conference loss.
The Fighting Scots return to their home court on Saturday, September 14 with a tri-match against Wheaton and Bridgewater State starting at 10 a.m.
How It Happened
- Simmons took a slight 4-3 edge before the Scots booked five straight points to go on top, 8-4. Jacque Fitzgerald forged the rest of the way with four kills to help the Scots lead by as many as nine en route to the eventual 25-20 win.
- With momentum on their side, the Scots jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second before Simmons caught fire, with the Sharks scoring six straight points to double up the Scots, 6-3. Simmons remained in control, leading by as many as 10 before evening the match at 1-1 with the 25-19 game-two win.
- The third started with a fury for the Scots who grabbed an early 9-3 lead, but the Sharks battled to keep the score within reach until five unanswered points gave them their first lead of the frame, 21-20. Both teams then traded points the rest of the way before the Sharks pulled ahead for the narrow 26-24 W.
- Determined to wrap up the evening with a victory, Simmons utilized a six-point run midway through the fourth to secure the 25-12 game and 3-1 match win.
