In their season-opener this afternoon, Gordon College Men's Tennis traveled to Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts where the Scots made quick work of the Pride in a 9-0 victory to open up the fall season at 1-0.
In doubles,
Will Jeffreys and
Richard Ryzi got things started for the Fighting Scots with an 8-0 victory over Jayson Vega (Sr./Ponce, Puerto Rico) and Lenny Tam (Fr./Waltham, Mass.) in the No. 3 spot, giving Gordon the first point of the match. No. 1 and No. 2 doubles followed suit as
Ezekiel Hall and
Jonathan Frink earned the 8-1 victory at No. 1 over Regis' Matt DaRosso (Jr./Yonkers, N.Y.) and Sebastian Torres (So./San Juan, Puerto Rico), before No. 2's
John Marineau and
Patrick Monahan bested Evan Russell (Sr./East Wareham, Mass.) and Josh Nolen (Fr.Fairfax, Va.) by a tally of 8-3.
Coming into singles action with the 3-0 edge, the Scots needed wins in just two more matches to claim the victory. A laser-focused Monahan quickly took down Tam, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5 to set up the win, leaving Hall to seal the deal for Gordon with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Torres at No. 1. Despite clinching the victory early, Gordon continued their winnings ways as Ryzi took down Vega, 6-1 in both sets, Jeffreys battled to a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Nolen, Frink bested Russell, 6-4, 6-4, and wrapping up the nine W's for the Scots was Marineau who claimed the 6-3, 6-2 win over DaRosa.
The Scots are back in action at the Brigham Athletic Complex on Friday, September 20 to host Emerson at 3 p.m.
