Hosting the Emerson College Lions this afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex, Gordon College Men's Tennis battled through adversity but dropped a 5-4 decision to the Lions.
Early in doubles, Gordon's No. 2 duo had to retire due to injury giving Emerson the early 1-0 lead before a similar situation happened in the No. 3 doubles where Emerson's No. 3 team had to also retire due to injury, tying the score up at 1-1. With only the No. 1 doubles remaining, Emerson's Nicolai Dalmau and Keaton Watlington battled it out with Gordon's
Ezekiel Hall and
Jonathan Frink with Emerson taking the 8-6 victory to give Emerson the 2-1 lead going into singles.
Emerson tacked on another two points in singles, earning wins in No. 3 and No. 4 singles to go on top, 4-1.
Richard Ryzi bested his counterpart in the No. 5 position keeping Gordon alive. Frink defeated his opponent in the No. 2 slot to cut the lead to 4-3. Gordon's
Mark Noschese tied it up after the freshman won his No. 6 match, 7-5, 7-6. A marathon match at No. 1 singles ended in an Emerson victory as Maximo Lawlor (So./Litchfield Park, Ariz.) bested Hall, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 to seal the deal for Emerson in the 5-4 win.
