Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Scots' Late Goal Ignites 2-1 Win Over Blazers

After an exciting win less than 24 hours ago, Gordon College Field Hockey hit the field again in Chicopee, Massachusetts against the Elms College Blazers where the Fighting Scots earned a 2-1 victory to improve to 4-5 on the season.

The Fighting Scots return to the Brigham Athletic Complex on Wednesday, October 2 as they host Salve Regina for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest at 4 p.m.

How It Happened
  • On Elms' second shot attempt of the day, Elizabeth Collins (So./Enfield, Conn.) successfully chipped in a feed from Olivia Keane (Sr./Enfield, Conn.) to put the Blazers up 1-0 in the 11th minute of the game.
  • The Scots nearly tied it up 60 seconds later after a Natalie Adamez shot but Nora Newman (So./Woburn, Mass.) kept her team on top as the sophomore made a defensive save to maintain the 1-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
  • Forty Nine ticks into the second frame, Cara Goudie tied it up at one-all for her eighth goal of the season. The Gordon offense used that game-tying goal as momentum to put pressure on Elms and although the Scots earned a trio of penalty corners, the score remained knotted up heading into halftime.
  • After a scoreless quarter and a half, Gordon and Elms looked to be heading into extra time, but Emma Ellsworth had other plans as the senior found the back of the net in the 55th minute to give the Scots the lead and eventual 2-1 victory.

Beyond The Box Score
  • Cara Goudie has now scored in back-to-back games for the third time this season.
  • Emma Ellsworth booked her first game-winner of the season with her late goal.
