Hosting the Salve Regina Seahawks this afternoon, Gordon College Men's Basketball battled through overtime before
Eric Demers' potential game-winning shot was called off at the buzzer, securing the 100-99 victory for the Seahawks.
Eric Demers notched a game-high 38 points and four steals,
Garrett Sattazahn had 16 points and five assists, while
Josh Crutchfield added 11 points and four assists.
For the Seahawks, Cameron Collins (Jr./Oakdale, Conn.) netted 36 points, Kevin Kelly (Jr./Valhalla, N.Y.) had 22 points and nine rebounds, while Chris Peasley (So.Plainfield, Conn.) and Tyler Benjamin (Sr./Fitchburg, Mass.) had 12 and 11 points, respectively.
How It Happened
- Five minutes into the first half, the Fighting Scots took a dominating 17-2 lead. Demers netted 12 points, while Sattazahn and Crutchfield added nine each en route to a 51-33 halftime lead
- Salve came out of the locker room laser focused trimming the deficit to single digits (7) for the first time since the opening minutes of the game. The Seahawks later took their first lead of teh game at the 9:08 mark (67-65).
- Both sides were tied up four times late in the half before the Scots went back on top at 5:50 by two (78-76).
- The Scots held the edge for the remainder of the half until battled back to force overtime after Collins tied it up at 87-all with 25 second left in regulation.
- Trailing by one with .1 seconds remaining, Demers squared up and hit a jumper to win it for the Scots, but the refs waved it off as time expires to secure the win for the Seahawks.
