Gordon College Men's Basketball traveled to Biddeford, Maine to square off against the University of New England Nor'easters in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action tonight where the Nor'easters handed the Scots a 98-86 loss. The Fighting Scots level out at 8-8 (3-5 CCC), while UNE improves to 9-8 and (3-5 CCC).
For the Scots,
Eric Demers spearheaded the effort by dropping 37 points and swatting away three shots,
Parker Omslaer added 14 points, while
Garrett Sattazahn tacked on nine points and four assists.
Siddiq Canty (Fr./Dallas, Texas) scored a team-high 27 points and five steals, Avery DeBrito (Jr./New Bedford, Mass.) netted 23 points while grabbing 14
boards, and Alex Kravchuk (Jr./Mansfield, Conn.) added 20 points.
How It Happened
- Trailing 30-37 with 5:31 to go in the first half, the Scots went on a 10-0 run to go up by three points with 57 seconds remaining until the break. However, UNE sunk two from the charity stripe before a last second jumper to regain the lead and go up 41-40 heading into the locker rooms.
- Three minutes into the second half, UNE had an eight-point cushion before the Scots netted seven-straight points to make it a one-point game.
- UNE, however, kept the Scots at a distance leading by as many as 17 with 6:57 left in regulation. With 3:18 on the board, Demers went a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line to cut the lead to 11 but that was the closest the Scots would get as UNE took the eventual 98-86 win.
Beyond The Box Score
- Eric Demers made a career-high 17 free throws tonight (17-19).
- The Scots take a break from CCC play as they travel to Quincy, Massachusetts on Saturday, January 25 to face former CCC foe Eastern Nazarene College at 3 p.m.
