High Powered Offense Lifts WNE Over Scots

Gordon College Men's Basketball hosted the visiting Western New England Golden Bears in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup tonight at the Bennett Center where the visiting Golden Bears scored 71 points in the second to take a 112-98 W over the Fighting Scots. WNE improves to 8-5 and 3-1 in CCC play, while the Scots drop to 6-5 and 1-2 in league action.

For the Scots, Eric Demers netted 32 points, Parker Omslaer had 19 points, and Josh Crutchfield had 14 points in the effort.

WNE's Alex Sikorski (Jr./Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Tim Reilly (Sr./Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) each dropped 24 points, while Zachary Tavitian (Jr./Milford, Conn.) had 21 points and 11 rebounds.

How It Happened
  • Gordon jumped out to a 4-0 lead early before both sides traded baskets for much of the first half. Neither team gained more than a three-point lead until WNE went up by five (25-20) with 7:58 to go until the break.
  • The Golden Bears extended that lead to nine points before the Scots fought back, coming within a point thanks to a Demers' three-pointer with just over four minutes on the board.
  • WNE went up again by nine with 39 ticks left before Demers went 3-3 from the charity stripe to make it a 41-35 ball game at the break.
  • Midway through the second, WNE took a 14-point lead before the Scots clawed back into it, coming within four thanks to a Zachary Bennett layup with seven minutes remaining in regulation.
  • However, four points is as close as WNE would allow the Scots to get as the Golden Bears took the game 112-98.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Josh Crutfield had a career-high 14 points tonight.
  • Garrett Sattazahn put up a career-high six assists.
  • The Scots take on cross-town rival Endicott College on Thursday, January 9 at 7:30 p.m.
