Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Scots Thunder Past UNE, 83-67

The Gordon College Men's Basketball team hosted The University of New England tonight for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup. The Fighting Scots took home the 83-67 win over the Nor'easters in their final home game of the season. With the win the Scots improve to an even 12-12 overall and 7-8 in conference.

The Scots were led by the duo of Eric Demers and Garrett Sattazahn who had 28 and 23 points, respectively, and grabbed seven and five rebounds each. Parker Omslaer had a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards while swatting away three of the opponents' shots.

The Nor'easters were led by Avery Debrito's (Jr./New Bedford, Mass.) near triple-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, Siddiq Curry (Fr./Dallas, Tx.) contributed 16 points of his own and Alex Kravchuk (Jr./Mansfield, Conn.) had 14 points in the loss.

How It Happened
  • Omslaer got the crowd on its feet as he slammed the ball home to give the Scots their first two points of the game.
  • Both teams traded buckets for a majority of the first half before back-to-back three pointers from Josh Crutchfield and Sattazahn gave the Scots the 36-25 edge with just under four minutes to play in the half. The Scots held onto the double-digit lead as Crutchfield converted a layup as time expired to give the Scots the ten-point tilt going into halftime with a score of 43-33.
  • Two Sattazahn three-pointers helped propel the Scots to a quick 15-point lead three minutes into the half before UNE's Nathan Holt (Fr./Taunton, Mass.) broke up Sattazahn's scoring run with a layup of his own to bring the score to 51-38.
  • The Scots went on a 10-3 run in the following three minutes with eight of those ten points coming in the paint, to bring their lead to 63-41 with just over 14 minutes to play.
  • With just under three minutes to go, Debrito brought his squad within 12 after a layup in the paint, but the Scots' defense stayed solid for the closing minutes of the game to secure the 83-67 victory.
Beyond The Box
  • Freshman Garrett Sattazahn scored a career-high 25 points tonight. The last first-year player to do this was fellow teammate, Eric Demers, who also recorded a career-high of 25 points in his freshman campaign.
  • The Scots travel to Dudley, Mass. this Saturday to take on the Bison of Nichols College in their final regular season CCC matchup, with a start time of 3 p.m.
