Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Scots' Fourth Quarter Comeback Halted By Lyons' Late Tally

Gordon College Men's Lacrosse traveled to Norton, Massachusetts this evening to take on the Lyons of Wheaton College for their second game of the 2020 season. Despite a dominant four goal fourth quarter, the Fighting Scots were defeated by their hosts, 6-5.

For the Scots, Dawson Tozier found the back of the net two times, Karl Deckert, Dan Arthur, and Jacob Hryzan each registered one goal tonight, while Jason Dantona dished out a pair of assists. In 60 minutes of action, keeper Jay Gallipo made 11 saves.

Wheaton's Lou Mainella (So./Falmouth, Maine) spearheaded the offense for the Lyons with two goals and as many assists, Mike Abramo (Jr./Old Bethpage, N.Y.) also chipped in two goals, while Robert Sullivan (Fr./Newton, Mass) and Max Cooper (Fr./Tolland, Conn.) netted one goal each.

How It Happened
  • The Scots nearly drew first blood just one minute into the opening quarter, after the blue and white ripped three consecutive shots with one nearly going in but it ricochet off the crossbar to keep the score 0-0.
  • Goose eggs remained on the scoreboard for the remainder of the quarter until Wheaton's Mainella fired one into the netting to put the Lyons up 1-0.
  • With 6:67 left until halftime, Tozier tied it up at 1-1. Three minutes later, however, the home team regained the lead and held that one-goal edge going into the break.
  • Wheaton added another tally to their score column late in the third before tacking on another goal early in the fourth to go on top, 4-1.
  • Not going down without a fight, Gordon put their heads down, netting back to back goals to make it a one-score game wth 10:30 on the clock. Wheaton answered back to extend their lead to two.
  • Within a 45 second span, Hryzan and Arthur laced shots past the goalie to tie it up at 5-5 with just over six minutes left in regulation.
  • Utilizing a man-up opportunity, the Lyons scored the eventual game-winner with 50 seconds left to take the 6-5 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Scots return to the Brigham Athletic Complex on Saturday, February 29 to host Eastern Conn. State at 3 p.m.
  • Dawson Tozier has now booked his second career multi-goal game.
