Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Wentworth Outlasts Scots In 85-77 Grudge Match

Traveling to Wentworth Institute this afternoon for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup, Gordon College Men's Basketball battled for every point but was dealt a 85-77 loss. The Leopards improve to 14-8 and 7-6 in league play while the Fighting Scots fall to 10-11 and 5-7 in CCC action.

For Gordon, Eric Demers netted 32 points, Parker Omslaer nearly registered a double with 21 points and seven boards, and Garrett Sattazahn had seven points and five assists.

Wentworths' Kyle Henseler (Jr./Coventry, R.I.) booked a team-high 22 points, Kevin Fernandez (So./Lawrence, Mass.) had 20 points, while Stephen Azums (Sr./Hyde Park, Mass.) scored 19 points while grabbing 11 boards.

How It Happened
  • After being locked up three times in the first six and a half minutes, Wentworth began to pull away, going on top by six. However, Gordon quickly answered back matching the Leopards with six points of their own to tie it up at 20-all with 8:10 remaining before the end of the half.
  • Nearly five minutes later, a Demers' layup gave the Scots a seven-point lead. WIT hit a few key shots to trail by just three-points as both sides headed into the locker rooms.
  • Three lead changes and a pair of ties is how the opening three minutes of the second half went in the Tansey Gymnasium.
  • Wentworth eventually went on top by as many as eight points with Demers doing everything he could to keep his team close. The senior scored 12 straight points for the blue and white but the Scots still trailed 67-74 with 5:18 on the clock.
  • Shortly after, Omslaer threw down a monstrous dunk two minutes later to make it a three-point game. Demers put the Scots even closer as he drained a three-pointer to come within two points with 2:14 remaining in regulation.
  • Down the stretch, WIT was able to hit their free throws at the charity stripe to hold on for the 85-77 win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Senior, Eric Demers now has 676 points this season which breaks the Gordon Men's Basketball's season point record (655)– a record he reached in his junior season. Additionally, Demers has now hit 112 three-pointers this season which is a new GCMB record. The record was previously held by Scott Beebe (2001-2002) who hit 110 three's.
  • After today's contest, Parker Omslaer has now scored 20+ points in three games this season.
