Kicking off spring break with a non-conference matchup at Bryn Athyn College (Penn.) today, Gordon College Men's Lacrosse utilized a dominant first half offensive performance to secure a 13-5 win over the host Lions and notch the second win of the young season.
Gordon's
Jason Dantona continued his offensive tear with a five-goal performance to pace the Fighting Scots' win, getting help from
Nate Distasio who booked two goals and three helpers and
Jacob Hryzan who added three goals and one dish. Rounding out the scoring were
Dan Arthur (1g, 2a),
Dawson Tozier (1g, 1a), and
Billy Biegun (1g), while keeper
Jay Gallipo earned the win with three saves in 30 minutes of work.
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday, March 11 as they take on host Wilkes University at 4 p.m.
How It Happened
- The Scots established their dominance early with four consecutive goals in the opening 10 minutes (two from Dantona, one each from Distasio and Hryzan) before the Lions' Mike Perkett (Jr./Pittsfield, Mass.) stopped the run off a Dan Condon (Jr./Waterloo, Ont.) assist with 2:36 remaining.
- That goal did little to stem the tide, however, as Gordon went on to net five unanswered goals in the second frame for a substantial 9-1 advantage at the halftime break.
- Though Bryn Athyn slightly outpaced their guests in the third period (3-2), the Scots applied just enough heat on offense and buckled down in the backfield in the final frame to preserve their first half lead and cruise to the eight-point victory.
Beyond the Box Score
- Gordon's Jason Dantona has been a force to be reckoned with so far this season, recording five or more points in three of the Scots' five games to be at the vanguard of his team's scoring effort.
- The Scots return home from their spring break travels to welcome Mass. Maritime for a non-conference head-to-head on Saturday, March 18 at 2 p.m. MMA claimed last year's clash in Buzzards Bay, 18-8.
