Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Springfield Edges Scots After Last Minute Goal

Hosting the Springfield College Pride for this evening's non-conference competition, Gordon College Field Hockey put up a fight against their evenly matched opponents. Despite their best efforts, the Fighting Scots were barely topped, 3-2 by their visitors after four neck and neck periods.

How It Happened
  • Both squads came out ready for battle, with the Scots launching the first shot attempt which was soon returned by their guests, however neither team was able to surpass the other's defense.
  • Cara Goudie broke the ice by giving the Fighting Scots an early lead just eight minutes into the game when she took advantage of a penalty stroke by ripping it in the top left corner of the net to go up 1-0. However, Springfield retaliated with a goal of their own less than two minutes later when the Prides's Carly Torrance scorched a pass from the edge of the arch to hand it off to Grace Majka who quickly deflected it into the cage to tie up the game one all.
  •  At the start of the second period, Springfield came out shooting, however all attempts were smothered by Gordon's goalie, Sophea Zaskoda. The Fighting Scots also attempted to break the tie with four strong shots but it wasn't enough to pierce through the Pride, resulting in the period ending without a change in score.
  • After the half, the Fighting Scots came back hungry to score as just five minutes into the third period Anna Rathbun followed up a rebounded shot to find the back of the cage and give the Scots a 2-1 lead. However, Gordon was unable to hold their lead for long as Springfield managed to tie it up again just four minutes later after capitalizing on a penalty stroke.
  • Going into the fourth, 2-2, the Fighting Scots were determined to take the lead, firing off two shots before Springfield was able to return the favor with two more attempts however being denied by Zaskoda for the sixth time.
  • With less than two minutes on the clock, Springfield's Gabby Inkel drew out Gordon's defense and whipped the ball across the turf to teammate Emma Wesoloski who fired it in a clear net bringing the final score to 3-2.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The Fighting Scots are back in action on Saturday, October 30 when they host the Seahawks of Salve Regina while celebrating their senior Scots with a start time of 12 p.m.
