Bison Edge Scots By One In Double OT

The Gordon College Men's Basketball team welcomed the Nichols College Bison tonight on Kanas Court in non-conference action. Both squads went neck and neck forcing two overtimes, before Nichols tilted the score in their favor, winning 100-99.

For Nichols, Matt Morrow was solid with 20 points and 17 rebounds, while Jack Cowan led the team with 25 points.

On the home team, sophomore Garrett Sattazahn had himself a game, scoring 35 points, including seven made three-pointers. Freshman Michael Makiej came in strong with 18 points and eight rebounds. Seniors Parker Omslaer and Joshua Crutchfield contributed with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

How It Happened
  • The Scots got on the board first with a layup from Zachary Bennett after a turnover early by the Bison.
  • Despite, a half dozen lead changes throughout the first, Gordon held a narrow four-point edge at the half.
  • Nichols controlled the first few minutes of the second half until Sattazahn sunk a three pointer to gain back the lead (49-48).
  • With just a little over four minutes on the clock, a layup from Nichols put the Scots down by 14 points, but Gordon then went on a 16-2 run to send the game to extra minutes with the scoreboard reading 82-82 at the end of regulation
  • In the first OT, Gordon came out hot with a three from Sattazahn, while Nichols responded with a three pointer of their own from Jason O'Regan.
  • Scoring went back and forth until the five minutes of overtime ended and the score was still locked, 89-89
  • With just a minute left in 2OT, back to back three's from Sattazahn and Drew Thibeault put the Scots up by two. However, Nichols fired back with another three from O'Regan, to give the Bison the one point edge which was enough to secure the win.

  • This is the first OT game of 2021 for the Gordon MBB team
