Makiej's Record Setting Night Propels Scots Past Colonels

Gordon College Men's Basketball opened up the 2021 season by welcoming the Curry College Colonels tonight. Both sides went point for point for much of the first half before the Scots gained momentum in the second to book a dominant 99-63 victory over the Colonels.

Michael Makiej spearheaded his squad with an unforgettable 28 points, Garrett Sattazahn registered 16 points, while Justin Yu netted 15 points in the W.

How It Happened
  • After trading buckets to open up the game, the Scots took control down the stretch, outscoring the Colonels 10-1 in the final minutes to go up by 13 at the break.
  • The Scots' offense continued to stay hot after an abbreviated halftime, eventually taking a 30-point lead midway through the second.
  • Makiej was a scoring machine for Gordon, dancing around his defenders to net 22 of his 28 points in the second half.
  • Gordon led by as many as 38 before securing the 99-63 win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Tonight's contest marks the first match up on the newly annointed Kanas Court.
  • Freshman, Michael Makiej introduced himself to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) by scoring a freshmen record 28 points in his first collegiate game.
  • Said Head Coach Tod Murphy: "After a little bit of a shaky start, we were able to get things going about halfway through the first half. At that point, we couldn't have played any better. Our bench turned this game around, scoring 60 total points, led by Michael Makiej with 28 points in his first college game ever. We won the possession game out rebounding them by almost 20, along with 10 steals and only 10 turnovers. It was a great start to the season!"
